Duolingo for Business has arrived

Everyone’s favourite language education app (they’rethe world’s #1 way to learn a language”), Duolingo has recently launched a Business subscription offering.

Announced on LinkedIn last week, the new option for employers means they can receive a discounted price to support their team’s personal development or simply just for fun!

All users on the Duolingo for Business model will have access to the Duolingo Plus subscription which has no ads, with lessons that are downloaded and can be done anywhere, and enhanced learning options like activities to learn from mistakes or powering through levels quickly.

Duolingo prides itself on being an accessible and powerful learning tool for everyone so it’s no surprise they’ve extended into the corporate space, a few years after the launch of Duolingo Plus. So, how does it work?

Businesses interested in signing up fill out the online form here and state how many employees will be signing up to the app. (There is a minimum of 10 employees that must sign up.) Once paid for, employees would receive a link to begin learning!

If a business has more than 1,000 people wanting to join, they need to submit a specific request.

The Duolingo for Business subscription does seem pricey, particularly in comparison to individual profiles requesting the same Plus option, but it is better value. Of course, the more employees signing up, the cheaper it will be.

You can see on the below that if we were to sign up our 50-strong team here at Hotglue, we’d save about $30 a year per person at the current exchange rate!

Individual vs. Business pricing on Duolingo

Would your team benefit from a language learning app like Duolingo for Business?

  • Do you work/travel internationally? Learning a new language can help bridge communication barriers and help you seem more professional, even if you simply give it a go!

  • Do you have clients based overseas or who do not speak your native tongue? Again, being able to effectively communicate is key.

  • Would you like to create an educational and social challenge between staff? Who can keep their streak the longest?! The app doesn’t currently have private team-based leaderboards for this subscription (hopefully one day), so staff can follow each other and note each other’s progress that way.

Language learning is also well-known to improve cognitive function and memory, improves the ability to multi-task and problem solve, enhance creative thinking, and heighten cultural awareness. You’ve got to love that, especially in a work environment.

The best part that makes it so worth it? We all love a tax write-off! 😉

We’d love to hear your thoughts on Duolingo for Business!
